Hop on the D-Train

So, I’ve been wanting to do this for a while, and today is the day. If you know me, you know I love Spotify. It’s an amazing product that puts nearly any song at your fingertips. But, there’s another aspect to it that I’m sure has not reached it’s full potential, and that’s the social aspect. See, music is still very much a social application. I gave up on Pandora moons ago; too cold. I don’t want a machine to tell me what to listen to, and whether you know it or not, neither do you. Music is to be shared. It’s to be interacted with. No algorithm will ever replace the human interaction of music.

So let’s see what kind of fun we can still have with music. I’ve started a collaborative playlist on Spotify called “D-train.” The concept here is that I’ll start with one song, and you, yes you, will add the next song to the playlist based on the song previous to it. This week, I’ve started with new music from Nada Surf called “Waiting for Something.” So now the next song you add may be something based off waiting, or maybe this song reminds you of the 90s (Nada Surf and all) so you throw something 90s at it. Or maybe the song evokes some other emotion out of you all together and reminds you of another song that did the same, so you throw that one on next in the playlist.

So let’s play. Listen and add! Click on the picture of the D-Train above to get started, or click here.
